Jung continues his walk. A poetic description of the landscape is given as he follows the sea; ahead the sky and sea “are fused into infinity” He sees a man in a black wrinkled coat and asks to stand by him and the man agrees. Jung says he knows him; he is ice and snow, the highest snow and the extreme frost of outer space. The man asks why Jung came here, the living never come there. Jung says as he followed the path of the living stream he walked here.
The stranger says to look more closely. Jung sees a mass of people, horses, insects, a dead summer - a flowing stream. Is this the end? the sea breaks, a reddish glow breaks out, a new sun breaks forth and rolls towards depths and disappears. Now Jung is alone and it is night.
